CST 200 Cultural Studies
The Cultural Studies (CST 200) is a three-credit course and one of the University General Education Requirements (GER). It is taught in the Arabic language, has no prerequisites and delivered by the Faculty of Religions and Humanities.
The aim of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to engage with key contemporaneous questions about the meaning of our presence in the worldly journey. There will be an emphasis on the importance of reason and dialogue in Islam as well as the significance of addressing the current issues in forming the religious consciousness and its international outlook. Themes of the courses will touch on the phenomena of globalization, secularism, civil society, democracy, and the interventions made by a number of thinkers about these.
The teaching method is interactive and learner-centered. You are anticipated to get involved proactively in group discussions, and group work. Students in this course are assessed on their ability to think critically and make judgments as well as to introduce solutions to some of the addressed critical issues.
There is a set of assessment methods used for the course such as regular assignments, quizzes, partial exams, projects and a final exam (Required by the University Academic Policy).
